    » NCDs is an abbreviation for Non-Communicable Diseases or a group of chronic non-communicable diseases, which are a group of diseases that.

    • Not contagious: it is not caused by germs and cannot be spread from person to person.
    • Chronic: There is a slow progression of the disease, continuing to accumulate symptoms, and when it is, it is often chronic for a long time.
    • Caused by behavior: The main cause is improper lifestyle. Therefore, it is called a "self-created disease" or "silent threat" that gradually threatens long-term health.

    Examples of important NCDs.

    1. Cardiovascular disease: such as high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease.
    2. Diabetes.
    3. Various cancers: lung cancer, liver cancer, intestinal cancer.
    4. Chronic respiratory diseases: such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema.
    5. Hyperlipidemia/hypertension.
    6. chronic kidney disease.
    7. Cirrhosis.

    » Most NCDs are caused by behavioral risk factors in daily life, as follows:

    • Inappropriate food: Consuming food with strong flavors (very sweet, very salty, very oily), high-fat food, grilled food.
    • Lack of exercise: A sedentary lifestyle or insufficient physical activity.
    • Smoking.
    • Drinking alcohol.
    • Stress and insufficient rest.
    • Using medications without consulting a doctor (e.g. painkillers, herbal remedies)

    » NCD prevention (reduce risk)

    » Since the main cause is behavioral, prevention focuses on changing behavior and lifestyle.

    1. Eat healthy food:
      • Reduce spicy foods (sweet, oily, salty)
      • Add more vegetables and fruits.
      • Choose foods that are high in fiber.
    2. Exercise regularly: at least 30 minutes/time, 5 times a week, or a total of 150 minutes.
    3. Avoid smoking and alcohol: These are important risk factors that should be avoided.
    4. Control your weight: appropriate for your height (not fat or pot-bellied)
    5. Manage stress and get enough rest: Do stress-relieving activities and get 6-8 hours of sleep per night.
    6. Annual health check-up: To detect abnormalities or risk factors early and receive timely treatment.
